Chat with Dusty, no AI subscription needed

Dusty answers in the chat panel out of the box: build ready plans, place builds next to or on top of each other, cut boards on the saws in your shop, or hand off custom designs.

You no longer need to connect an AI API key before using the chat panel. Dusty is built into Sawdust and answers right away for everyone.

Build ready plans and arrange them in the scene

Ask Dusty for a workbench, shed, table, shelving unit, cabinet, pergola, swing set, deck frame, or platform bed, and it builds the complete project on your workbench with a Watch it build button to replay the cuts and assembly. Follow-up placement works in plain words: ask for a second sawhorse next to the first, or place a bed centered on a deck.

Cut boards on the saws in your shop

Select a board in the scene and ask Dusty to halve it, crosscut it to length, or rip it to width. Dusty picks the right saw from the tools in your shop and offers your other capable saws as one-tap alternatives. When you rip a sheet of plywood and either orientation works, Dusty draws both cuts to scale and asks which way you want to feed it.

Works alone or in front of your own AI model

When you ask for a tool operation without giving a required measurement, Dusty asks for the missing number instead of guessing. When a request goes beyond its ready plans and shop tools, Dusty tells you plainly and offers a one-click handoff to your connected AI model or to the request board. If you do connect an AI key, the model picker in the chat header lets you run Model + Dusty (where Dusty handles instant commands and ready plans first) or your model alone.
