How to send your assistant a useful project screenshot
Published on
Drag a Region marquee in the Camera tool and click Attach to agent so Dusty can inspect the exact joint or part you want to change.
When asking your agent to fix a misalignment, flush up a rail, or check a mitered corner, attaching a targeted screenshot is much faster than trying to describe the angle in words. Sawdust's Camera tool embeds camera pose and scene metadata directly into the capture so your assistant knows exactly what it is looking at.
1. Select a close-up with Camera -> Region
- Orbit the 3D viewport so the joint or face you want to discuss is clearly visible. Toggle X-ray if an internal contact is hidden inside the joint.
- Click Camera in the top toolbar.
- Click Region and drag a selection marquee around the joint, or click Full view to capture the entire viewport.

See more with X-Ray mode

With X-Ray mode active, you can see how fasteners are embedded through material. Interpenetrating wood pieces (two boards trying to occupy the same space) are highlighted in bright magenta, revealing build issues you might otherwise miss.
2. Preview the capture and click Attach to agent
As soon as you release the marquee, Sawdust opens the Camera preview dialog. Verify that the edges and faces you care about are easy to read, then choose how to use the capture:
- Attach to agent: attaches the image (along with its embedded camera and project manifest) directly to the Dusty chat composer.
- Copy: copies a full-resolution PNG with embedded
sawdust.capturemetadata to your clipboard, which you can also paste straight into the chat input. - Save: stores the capture in your project storage for future reference.

3. Ask a specific question in the chat dock
With the capture attached in the chat tray, pair it with a concrete question naming the parts or the change you want (for example, "Do the side rail and corner post meet flush at this joint?").

Note: Dusty, the built-in free shop assistant, cannot see attached screenshots. You will need to connect your own agent.
