How to view a Sawdust project in augmented reality

Published on

Launch your 3D build in augmented reality on iOS, Android, or Quest to check full-scale room fit and test articulated doors and drawers.

Before cutting lumber for a cabinet, workbench, or bed frame, you can stand the full-scale 3D model in your room using augmented reality (AR). Sawdust supports AR handoff from desktop via QR code as well as direct launch on compatible phones and headsets.

1. Send the model to your phone and launch AR

  1. On desktop, click View in AR in the project or shared guide header and scan the QR code with your phone camera.
  2. On your phone, tap View in AR in the launch card.
  3. On iPhone and iPad, Safari opens the model in Apple Quick Look at 1:1 physical scale.
  4. On Android and Meta Quest, compatible browsers launch an interactive WebXR session where you can place the build directly on your floor or benchtop.

2. Test articulated doors, lids, and drawers

When your project includes hinged doors, lids, or sliding drawers with configured joint motion, Sawdust displays interactive tap target dots on the moving subassemblies. Tap a dot in the 3D or WebXR viewer to swing a door open or slide a drawer out and check clearance in your space.
