How to write and share a woodworking guide in Sawdust
Published on
Assemble a readable project page in Publish -> Guide with step-by-step instructions, interactive 3D figures, tool walkthroughs, and a shareable link.
Sawdust's Publish -> Guide workspace turns your 3D build history into an interactive woodworking guide that anyone can read in their browser, complete with live 3D step views, Show me how saw setups, and a shopping list.
1. Open Publish -> Guide and structure the page
- Select Publish in the left rail and open the Guide (or Share) tab.
- Review the project header, which automatically summarizes the board count, finished piece count, board footage, yield, and project units.
- Use the + figure menu in the toolbar to insert interactive figures, build-step cards, Show me how tool views, shopping lists, or composed films.

2. Add interactive 3D figures, tool views, and shopping lists
Use the + figure menu to insert build steps, tool scenes, or a complete shopping list. The shopping list automatically brings in your project's materials and hardware packages so readers know exactly what supplies to prepare.

3. Save, share, and export printable plans
When your guide is ready, click Save document in the top bar. You can copy the share link to let others interact with the 3D model in their browser, or switch to the Print tab to export the matching cut sheet and bill of materials.
