Connect Sawdust to OpenAI Codex

Published on

Add https://sawdust.diy/mcp to the OpenAI Codex CLI or ~/.codex/config.toml and approve OAuth access in your browser.

The OpenAI Codex CLI connects to remote streamable HTTP MCP servers and stores OAuth credentials automatically. You can add Sawdust from the command line or in ~/.codex/config.toml.

1. Add Sawdust with the Codex CLI

Run the following command in your terminal:

codex mcp add sawdust --url https://sawdust.diy/mcp

Or add the server block directly to ~/.codex/config.toml:

[mcp_servers.sawdust]
url = "https://sawdust.diy/mcp"

2. Complete the browser OAuth sign-in

If Codex does not open the sign-in flow automatically during codex mcp add, run:

codex mcp login sawdust

Sign in to your Sawdust account in the browser window that opens and click Approve.

Sawdust OAuth consent screen asking to connect Codex with project and procedure permissions.

3. Verify and manage

Run codex mcp list to confirm sawdust is registered, then start codex and ask it to list your Sawdust projects. To revoke the connection later, click Disconnect next to Codex in Sawdust under Settings -> Connected assistants or run codex mcp logout sawdust.

Sawdust Settings Connected assistants section showing Codex connected with a Disconnect button.
