Connect Sawdust to ChatGPT

Published on

Turn on developer mode in ChatGPT Connectors, add https://sawdust.diy/mcp, and approve Sawdust in your browser.

ChatGPT supports custom remote MCP connectors on plans that include Connectors and developer mode. Once connected, ChatGPT can inspect your Sawdust projects, add lumber and hardware, and run woodworking operations directly.

1. Add the Sawdust connector in ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings -> Connectors.
  2. If you do not see the option to add a custom MCP server, open Advanced inside Connectors and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Click Create or Add custom connector.
  4. Set the name to Sawdust, paste https://sawdust.diy/mcp as the MCP server URL, leave authentication set to OAuth, and click Create.

2. Approve access in Sawdust

ChatGPT redirects you to Sawdust's authorization page. Sign in to your Sawdust account, review the requested permissions, and click Approve.

3. Use Sawdust in a ChatGPT conversation

Open a new chat in ChatGPT, enable the Sawdust connector from the tools menu in the composer, and ask it to inspect or build a project:

List my Sawdust projects and open the cut sheet for my latest build.

When ChatGPT calls a write tool (such as adding stock or making a cut), it may ask you to confirm the action in chat. You can revoke ChatGPT's access anytime in Sawdust under Settings -> Connected assistants.
