Bandsaw school: resaw, rip and follow a line
Three bandsaw cuts on three saws: resawing a board into thin slices, ripping with a tilted table, and following a pencil line.
Chapters
Resawing slices a board through its thickness against the fence. Ripping cuts along the grain, square or with the table tilted for a bevel. Following a line steers the board so the blade stays on a pencil mark.
Transcript
0:06 To resaw, stand the board on its edge against the fence. Set the fence half an inch from the blade, bring the guide down to just above the board, and feed it through. A half inch slice comes off the face.
0:20 Leave the fence where it is and feed what's left through again. The second slice comes off the same thickness as the first, so the two open like a book.
0:37 To rip, lay the board flat against the fence, two inches from the blade, and push it through. The strip between the fence and the blade is two inches wide.
0:51 Tilt the table to fifteen degrees, its fence side down, so the board rests against the fence. With the fence an inch and a half out, the strip comes off with a beveled edge.
1:08 To cut a curve, take the fence off and draw the line on the board. Start at the end where the line meets the edge, and turn the board as you feed it so the blade stays on the line all the way out.
