How to build one: Crosscut sled

A crosscut sled carries the board across the blade on runners in both miter slots, so the cut is square to the fence. Its stop block sets the length: leave it where it is and every piece matches.

Transcript

0:03 The crosscut sled rides both miter slots. Set its stop six inches from the blade, hold the board to the fence and stop, and push it through.

0:16 Slide what's left against the stop and cut again. The stop hasn't moved, so the second piece matches the first.

0:26 For a ten inch piece, slide the stop along its track to ten inches, lock the knob, and cut.
